We retold the story Princess and the Pea using our oral vocabulary words. We also took our second dictation quiz.
In Writing we worked on our plan for our first personal narrative. Tomorrow we will begin drafting.
In Math we worked on problem solving. We had to identify the information being asked for. Choose a strategy, and then write a number sentence (also a strategy). The strategies discussed were:
- Draw a model.
- Make a table
- Write a number sentence (math sentence/equation)
- Act it out (with manipulatives)
We completed lesson 7 of the violence prevention training.
Hello Mr. B. -
ReplyDeleteCan you describe or provide an example of the dictation quiz.
Thank you
Thank you for your question. As it would be difficult to describe the process here, I will give a short explanation and if you would like to know more, please see me. Basically this is a quick assessment to see how the students are encoding (writing what they hear) the spelling generalizations we have practiced and learned during the week. For example, if we learned a final consonant blend like '-st' and blended and read words like 'list' and 'last', then it is hoped that students will be able to apply that knowledge to dictated words like 'fast', 'mast', and 'lost'. This is in place of a spelling test where a set list of words is memorized and tested each week. We are then teaching spelling strategies, rules, and generalizations, and applying them in real-time in a quick assessment format. We will take dictation assessment approximately every 3 days alternating with manipulative word building and "spelling relay" games.
DeleteThank you for the detailed answer, Mr. B.
