Forty-Sixth Day of School

In Math we used the strategy of counting on 1, 2, or 3. Those children that needed them were given only 3 counters to complete the classwork.

    1. Thank you for your question. Chapter 3 is about different strategies which could be used to facilitate the operation of addition. The idea of counting on is that if a greater number is being added to, say, 1, 2, or 3, the greater number is kept in mind while counters are used to represent the value of the lesser number so that the mathematician can then "count on" the value of the lesser number. Another tool for a very similar strategy is to use a number line. Students will be taking home a page to cut and tape a number line for use at home.
